FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

Good morning, I'm new to candle crafting and I'm looking for wicks for gel candle wax. I was reading on here that you say that the rule of thumb is go one size bigger, how do I know what size I would need? The size of the container? A little confused and want to make sure I get the right size. - Thanks, Nathalie

Hi Natalie - If your container was 3.5" across, then normally you would use a wick that burns 3"-4" in diam. But in gel that would only burn 3" or a bit less because the melt point of gel is super high, around 200F. So to get the candle to burn to the glass, you would need a wick that burns 4"-5" in wax. Make sense? - Sue.

Hi there! I bought your sox container wax and your essential oils for candles. I am not sure how much essential oil to use in a pound of soy wax. I followed your instructions of using 1/2 oz per pound but i feel that it is really non-fragrant when it burns. Am I using too little essential oil? In addition, how many cups of dry soy wax is in a pound? I just want to see if there is a better way to get the candle more fragrant. - Thanks, Elaine

Hello Elaine - There is roughly 3 3/4 cups of the soy wax chipits in one lb. It should melt to about 14 oz . You can go up to 30 mls before it starts to affect the burn. Don’t overheat the wax (heat to 140F , add oil, then cool quickly to 100F and pour) or you can burn off some oils. - Sue
